Upcoming Program to Explore Recent Healthcare Liability Court Decisions

KAMMCO members are invited to save the date for the 2026 Loss Prevention education program focused on recent appellate court opinions impacting healthcare professional liability and healthcare regulation litigation nationwide.

This year’s presentation will review several significant court decisions that demonstrate changing judicial perspectives on healthcare liability, negligence claims, EMTALA litigation, and risk management. Attendees will receive practical guidance to strengthen defensibility and reduce liability exposure.

Program Will Highlight Emerging Litigation and Risk Trends

After this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Examine the framework for healthcare professional liability negligence litigation to limit liability.
  • Review the framework for EMTALA litigation, including recent rulings.
  • Describe risk management lessons from recent litigated cases.

This 60-minute presentation will review six to eight recent appellate court opinions from across the country that illustrate current judicial attitudes toward healthcare professional liability and regulation litigation.

Featured Speaker: Maggie L. Neustadt

This year’s program will feature Maggie L. Neustadt, JD, CPHRM, DFASHRM, Vice President of Risk Management for BJC Health System. Neustadt manages professional and general liability claims for one of the nation’s leading health systems and advises on clinical risk identification, reduction, and mitigation strategies.

A nationally recognized speaker on healthcare legal and ethical issues, Neustadt has extensive experience presenting to healthcare organizations and professional associations across the country. She is actively involved in patient safety initiatives and facilitates disclosure conversations with patients and families following significant unexpected events.
