Informed Consent: Examining the Patient & the Process

Recorded on May 8, 2019 for the KAMMCO 2019 Spring Education Series.

Presented by Yolanda Sims, JD, MHA
KAMMCO, Loss Prevention & Risk Management Advisor

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Informed consent is not merely a piece of paper, it is a process. In today’s medical practice, a patient’s limited understanding or lack of comprehension can impede the informed consent process. Physicians must examine patients on an individualized basis while providing adequate information and educating them about the risks and benefits of any procedure or surgery. Proper counseling and thorough documentation of the informed consent discussion will serve to protect patients and prevent the erosion of the physician-patient relationship. This webinar will discuss ethical and legal aspects of informed consent, including the core elements of informed consent and offer tips on how to properly document the process.

AUDIENCE
The healthcare team, including Risk Managers, Office Managers, Hospital/Facility Administrators, Nurses, Physicians, Non Physician Providers and other healthcare professionals.
