Title

Lessons in Hindsight: Past Claims, Future Clarity

Summary

What can yesterday’s claims teach us about tomorrow’s care? Lessons from the past can serve as rich sources of learning and uncover practical insights for improvement. Through a reflective analysis of past claims, our panelists will explore common themes such as communication breakdowns, documentation pitfalls, and system risks.  The program emphasizes not only what went wrong, but also why and how to enhance patient safety and reduce the risk of similar issues in the future.

Objectives

  1. Recognize factors commonly associated with increased risk of professional liability claims arising from adverse treatment outcomes.
  2. Discuss lessons from past claims to refine risk management practices.
  3. Examine opportunities to integrate reflective practice into everyday clinical work to enhance patient safety.

Kim Williams, MD, Family Medicine Physician
Susan Daignault, Senior Claims Manager, Medical Liability Analyst, KAMMCO
Kim Davenport, Senior Medical Liability Analyst, KAMMCO
