ABOUT THE PROGRAM
For many patients, the COVID-19 pandemic marked their first time using telemedicine to remotely access care from their health care provider. As the country re-opens, providers and patients are expressing interest in the continued use of telemedicine as a modality for care delivery. When used appropriately, telemedicine can be an indispensable tool for improving access to care, creating patient-centered care paths and treatment plans, and providing remote patient monitoring and education. But as telemedicine rules, regulations, and attitudes shift, today’s telemedicine best practices can be challenging to identify and discern.

Connie Christian, MBA, CPHRM, and Yolanda Sims, JD, MHA, developed this presentation to give those in the health care field an understanding of the emerging trends in telehealth. As expert Risk Management Advisors, they will navigate participants through the telemedicine landscape to provide them with an awareness and understanding of current telemedicine service requirements, tools to mitigate potential adverse patient outcomes, and strategies to limit their liability. This presentation will include real-life case examples and provide resources to keep participants informed of the changes in telemedicine as it continues to evolve.

OBJECTIVES

Following participation in this presentation, the learner will be prepared to:

1.    Discuss current guidelines specific to telemedicine and suggested practices for care delivery essential for health care providers.

2.    Implement preventative actions and tools available to protect health care providers from potential liability.

3.    Recognize federal and state regulatory actions and trends in the current environment to gain a full comprehension of the risks associated with providing telemedicine services.

4.    Describe claims trends and discuss the current litigation environment based on actual claims—including potential criminal concerns—on the federal and state level.

program audience

Connie and Yolanda designed this presentation for the health care team, including physicians, clinic managers, hospital and facility administrators, risk managers, nurses, long-term care providers, and health care professionals.
